چکیده

Lameness detection is a world-wide challenge to farmers and veterinarians. Traditionally, one uses visual observation to make judgment on a cow's lameness or soundness. Visual observation heavily depends on the observer's experience, hence is subjective or observer-dependent. And even worse, it is inconsistent. It's reported that the agreement between veterinarians can be as low as 45% [1]. It is necessary and urgent to develop an objective detection method that can automatically detect lameness when it occurs. In this paper, we describe how statistical models can be used to develop such methods and how well the statistical models perform.

Inertial sensor-based system for lameness detection in trotting dogs with induced lameness.

Lameness detection can be challenging in dogs, as reflected in the reported low inter-rater agreement when visually assessing lameness. The aim of this study was to use an inertial sensor-based system to detect and quantify induced distal and proximal limb disturbances mimicking supporting and swinging limb lameness in dogs trotting on a treadmill by measuring vertical head and pelvic movement ...

Objective Measures of Lameness Evaluation

Subjective evaluation of the horse in motion is the standard of practice for detection and evaluation of lameness in horses. Techniques for subjective evaluation are first learned in veterinary school and later developed by collegial transfer of knowledge, study of standard veterinary texts, and by experience. Nothing is better than experience at improving this skill. How one looks and what one...

Rater agreement of visual lameness assessment in horses during lungeing

REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY Lungeing is an important part of lameness examinations as the circular path may accentuate low-grade lameness. Movement asymmetries related to the circular path, to compensatory movements and to pain make the lameness evaluation complex. Scientific studies have shown high inter-rater variation when assessing lameness during straight line movement. OBJECTIVES The a...

Repeatability of subjective evaluation of lameness in horses.

REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY Previous studies have suggested that agreement between equine veterinarians subjectively evaluating lameness in horses is low. These studies were limited to small numbers of horses, evaluating movement on the treadmill or to evaluating previously-recorded videotape. OBJECTIVES To estimate agreement between equine practitioners performing lameness evaluations in ho...

Effect of skill level on variability of intra limb coordination and control variables in top spin strike

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of skill level on variability of intra limb coordination and control variables in top spin strike. The 16 participants of this study were divided into two groups of Skilled and Novice. The Skilled group was consisted of players who ranked as 8 top in national ranking at their age stage and the Novice group was consisted of players who rece...
